NVGCHS advocates SWM-SCOPE

by Johannes Rodmar Franco

To develop a culture of Solid Waste Management for a Clean, Orderly and Peaceful Environment (SCOPE), the Youth for Environment in School’s- Organization (YES-O)-NVGCHS has
launched the SCOPE program, July 4, 2014 at the NVGCHS quadrangle, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

An “earth hour” served as the dry run of the actual implementation of the program wherein a one-hour cleaning and greening was done in the campus after the launching.

The YES-O is advised by Mr. Voltaire Jacinto and led by Glaiza Sabino of IV-Mars.

SWM-COPE or SCOPE pointed out that every room should have
five waste sorters classified as “puting papel” and “may kulay na papel” for uncrumpled papers, “nabebenta” for washed plastic bottles and plastic cups, “nabubulok” for leaves, grasses, and
branches or plants, “residwal” (dapat itapon) for candy wrappers, junk food wrappers, plastic bags, styrofoam, feminine pads, tetrapack and all other plastics that have no more use.

As a mechanism, every room has a SCOPE Monitoring Sheet that will be used by subject teachers so that they can observe if the class implements the regulations of SCOPE. A Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) was put up near the gym to process and store usable and recyclable wastes.

As of press time, the group has accumulated funds for this segregationrecycling- entrepreneurship scheme.

To recognize the best class implementers of the program, the YES-O held awarding ceremonies for monthly winners.
